A complete internal renovation of an iconic 1970’s ‘Span’ house in Crystal Palace, originally built by Eric Lyons.
After a thorough consultation and briefing process, it was decided that the build program would be split into two phases, to minimise the impact on the young family.
The first phase incorporated a full services overhaul with new finishes throughout the upper floor and staircase. The bathroom was replanned and tiled and given a new bespoke shower screen and furniture which emphasised the bright, clean utilitarian aesthetic that Span became known for.
The existing floor finishes were stripped out, under floor heating installed and then finished with oak engineered timber. Alongside white walls and minimalist detailing this created a simple yet elegant canvas for the family to add their own unique style and make the home their own.
The second phase included a full strip out of all the ground floor partitions to create one large open plan kitchen dining living space. We worked closely with the client (an architecture tutor, designer and creative tech company founder) came to Eckford Chong with a clear design proposal which together we turned into reality.
Sliding folding doors to the rear elevation provided direct access and a visual connection to the small courtyard garden. The floor was again replaced with under floor heating with a poured, matt grey rubber finish.
Eckford Chong acted as main contractor and co-designer for the project throughout both phases.
