Project Description +

Our contractor / client commissioned us to undertake a feasibility study for a three bedroom residence (with office space) on a narrow agricultural site.

The steep natural topography enabled a split level proposal with an inverted plan: Bedrooms on the ground floor benefit from the privacy offered by a singular folded brick wall which turns in to create a private entrance courtyard.

To the north, offices make use of the constant cool natural light from clerestory windows onto the road.

Additional parking and storage sheds for vehicles, materials and equipment are neatly tucked within the banking of the site. At first floor the kitchen, living and dining spaces occupy one large south facing room which (being elevated) takes in uncompromising views of the surrounding landscape.

Materiality and form borrow heavily from the local pastoral vernacular while crisp modern detailing and facade composition mark the building as contemporary. It is every bit ‘of its time’ as its historic neighbours.
